August Newsletter
It's August on the flower farm and our 6th season and things have been going quite smoothly! The weather has been great. Our Field Crew is more experienced and we are following proven protocols for growing while always trying a few new things each season. The Flower Studio Team continues to create the most beautiful bouquets and arrangements for the farmstand, local deliveries, subscriptions and special events. Our dried flower studio has had a an upgrade as we collect and dry a wider variety of our blooms and botanicals each year.

This is our 5th annual sale. The discount code is for our newsletter recipients only and is valid through the end of August.
This year we are offering a great new selection of specialty tulip varieties to choose from and even more new names to add to our list of peonies.
All the specialty tulips have been selected for colour, form, stem length, scent (if possible) and interest. The Peonies have been selected for colour, form and scent as well as early, mid and late bloom times to give us the longest season possible for harvesting
These have been curated for our farm and will be planted this fall to grow for next season’s harvest.
I have ordered a limited number of each to be available for this sale.

Our summer crops have been productive. I’ve been harvesting oodles of mini and regular gladiolas, scabiosa fama, rudbeckia, yarrow, Verbascum, eupatorium, eryngium, veronica, lady`s mantle, verbena, raspberry greens, mint, delphinium, feverfew, hypericum magic series, scented geranium and more.
The hardy annuals and biennials we planted last fall and winter (or let self seed) grew strong and plentiful and filled in that gap as we waited for our summer blooms to arrive. Snap dragons, green mist, bells of Ireland, chocolate lace flower, calendula, nigella, sweet peas, dianthus, godetia, foxglove and poppies…lots of poppies!

The dahlias we left in the ground, on purpose or by mistake, have been blooming for a few weeks now. The tubers we planted through May and June are filling in and some are just starting to bloom.
A reminder to really making sure all of your dahlias get ‘pinched’ so that they don’t have stems as thick as broomsticks for arrangements. When cutting your dahlias for blooms cut deep down a few sets of leaves on the stem. You will sacrifice a few side buds but your dahlias will reward you with more long strong stems coming up in no time!
We do have dahlias for sale on the website that we have planted 1 gallon pots. There is quite a good selection and if you plant them in your garden and give them a pinch, they will give you beautiful blooms for the rest of the summer until we have a hard frost.

If you come up the driveway you will meet our team in the Flower Studio - Rekha, Megan, Liesbeth and Delaney along with Rachel & Nadiia. Everyone is working together to get the flowers and greens we harvest every morning and evening prepped, displayed and then arranged and wrapped for pick up and delivery or for the flower stand.

We have been hosting small private workshops for groups of friends, family and colleagues. If you are looking for an activity to fill an afternoon with inspiration, learning, creativity and beauty connect with us to set up a session. Our workshops can be tailored to the information and skills you would like to be presented. We can accommodate groups of 3-8 people.
